Undergraduate Courses
Smart Systems (Autumn Semester - 2023, 2024, 2025)
The objective of this course is to provide a basic understanding of machine learning through practice, to the final year undergraduate students. Following are the contents of this course, adapted mainly for time-series data.
- Data Manipulation and Feature Engineering of a dataset
- Supervised Learning (Regression and Classification)
- Unsupervised Learning (Clustering)
- Deep Learning (CNN and LSTM for time-series regression)
At the end of the module, students are able to:
- Understand the fundamental principles of machine learning algorithms
- Select and implement machine learning (or optimisation) method which is appropriate for the energy related problem under consideration.
English And Communication (Autumn Semester - 2023, 2024, 2025)
The English and Communication course is designed to help students to do the following:
- Develop their oral and written comprehension and production skills in English
- Develop their confidence in using and communicating in English
- Professionalise their English usage and communication
- Develop transferable (“soft”) skills
- Develop their cultural and intercultural awareness
- Work towards certification of B2 level according to the CECRL.
At the end of the semester, students are able to:
- Analyse individual learning preferences, and develop strategies to promote autonomous language learning
- Deliver a prepared text in public with appropriate techniques (rhythm, intonation, body language)
- Communicate appropriately in a professional context, both face-to-face and using telecommunications (telephoning, emailing, video conferencing)
